BERNADETTE SCOTT- CLINICIAN
Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor
BIO:
Hello!
My name is Bernadette Scott and I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor. I work with a wide range of mental health issues including anxiety, depression, self-harming behaviors, attachment wounds, disordered eating and other various life stressors. I work with adults ages 18 and older. I have specialized training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. I utilize various techniques and do not believe in a one size fits all approach to counseling. We are all unique individuals and will require different approaches as we go through this beautiful (and oftentimes messy) experience called life! Treatment plans will be individualized and tailored to each person and in relation to their presenting concerns. I have a special interest in incorporating religion and faith based practices into the counseling process if this is desired by clients. Additionally, I have a strong passion for walking alongside college aged students as they transition into their new phase of life. This is often a confusing and challenging time for young adults; if this is you I would be honored to walk with you during this time of growth and change!
PATRICK JOYCE- CLINICIAN
Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor
BIO:
I am honored to be starting a new chapter of my career with Beacon Counseling. I am motivated to work in private practice. I have a valuable skillset of clinical training combined with life experiences that can be used to effectively aid individuals experiencing issues in life.
I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC). I believe meeting clients where they are, both mentally and emotionally, is the best way to start the therapeutic process to healing. I am experienced in helping individuals address behavioral health concerns that include depression, anxiety, mood issues, grief, trauma, psychosis, and other life stressors.
As a combat military veteran, I especially identify with service members who struggle with PTSD and addiction issues. I understand dealing with the stigma of trauma that current and retired service members experience. Because of my background, I’m eager to assist military personnel wherever they are in their journey with trauma and road to recovery.
In treating clients, I use a combination of evidence-based modalities tailored to each person to best help them in their therapeutic journey. I have been trained in the following therapeutic modalities: CBT, Motivational Interviewing, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, and Person-Centered Therapy. I am certified in EMDR, DBT, and TF-CBT. I’m also a State Certified Military Peer Support Specialist.
My background involves serving the North Dakota National Guard for twenty years, providing prevention services with the ND Department of Human Services, and working as a therapist and providing crisis services on the Crisis Response Team at West Central Human Service Center.
I would love to assist you in taking the next step in your life whenever you are ready.
DAVID LARSON- COUNSELING INTERN
Master Level Counseling Intern
BIO:
I am a student in the Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at Colorado Christian University. My work history over the last four years has included employment at a residential psychiatric treatment center for adolescents, a homeless shelter, and a case management program for probationers.
I am drawn to the counseling field because of my belief in the healing nature of therapeutic relationships. Throughout history, people have been drawn back to the same preoccupations: love, death, work, spirituality, relationships, and similar conditions of life. I believe that a deeper understanding of the self can lead to more acceptance of the full range of our emotions, as well as greater freedom to break out of troublesome patterns of relating to others and ourselves. At its heart, my work is to provide a relationship that helps you learn and grow.
As a student, I am being trained for generalist practice and don’t have any clinical specialties yet. Some clinical issues I am interested in learning more about include depression and anxiety, psychosis, somatic issues, developmental trauma, grief and loss, personality disorders, and self-harm/eating disorders. I am also interested in the connection between mental health and physical health, especially in the case of people (of all ages, but especially children) affected by chronic pain or neuromuscular disease and similar disorders. Finally, perhaps not surprisingly for a student at a Christian university, I am interested in spiritual matters and am comfortable providing faith-based counseling to clients who want that approach. Theoretically, I am most influenced by person-centered, cognitive-behavioral, existential, and psychodynamic theories.
I practice pro bono under the clinical supervision of Rebecca McConnachie and the faculty supervision of Jeffrey White. I look forward to meeting you and learning what has led you to seek counseling.
